Desk : A tragic incident has been reported in the Strait of Hormuz, where an Indian-flagged cargo vessel came under gunfire attack, resulting in the death of a sailor from Gujarat and injuries to five other crew members. The incident has raised serious concerns over maritime security in the region.
According to available information, the vessel was passing through its routine international shipping route when unidentified assailants opened fire on it. The sudden attack caused damage to the ship and left several crew members injured.
Following the incident, the crew issued an emergency distress signal, after which maritime authorities initiated rescue and relief operations. The injured personnel were shifted to a nearby port for medical treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically significant and busiest shipping lanes, through which a large portion of global oil shipments pass. The attack has therefore triggered international concern over the safety of commercial shipping in the region.
