Srinagar : Security agencies at Srinagar International Airport in Jammu and Kashmir detained two foreign passengers after a satellite phone was allegedly recovered from their possession during routine security screening. The individuals are reported to be US nationals.
According to sources, the incident came to light during standard baggage checks when security personnel detected the presence of a satellite communication device in their luggage. Following the discovery, both passengers were immediately stopped and handed over to concerned security agencies for further questioning.
Officials stated that the use and possession of satellite phones in India, particularly in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir, is restricted without prior authorization. Therefore, the recovery of such a device has been treated as a serious security concern.
Both individuals are currently being questioned to determine the purpose of carrying the satellite phone and whether proper permissions were obtained.
Authorities have clarified that further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation, while security agencies continue to examine all aspects of the case in detail.
