Desk : During the G7 Summit in France, U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a strong statement regarding the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Iran. He clarified that the agreement is not a final peace deal and that the United States may reconsider its position depending on future developments.
Trump warned that if Iran does not “behave appropriately,” the United States would not hesitate to take military action. He said that if the terms of the agreement are not satisfactory or if Iran’s conduct remains hostile, Washington could respond with force again. His remarks are being viewed as an escalation in diplomatic tension.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Trump added that the 60-day timeline for negotiations is not fixed and could be adjusted depending on circumstances. He also suggested that the talks could conclude sooner than expected.
The MoU is intended to serve as a framework for broader negotiations, including discussions on Iran’s nuclear program and other unresolved issues. While it is not a final agreement, it is considered an important diplomatic step.
Trump also commented on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that maritime traffic is gradually returning to normal. He noted improvements in oil supply flows and signs of stabilization in global markets.
However, according to reports, several major shipping companies remain cautious and will fully resume operations only once there is clarity on the terms of the agreement. Trump also indicated that detailed provisions of the MoU may be made public soon.
Referring to the 2015 nuclear deal under the Obama administration, Trump argued that it had contributed to regional instability, whereas the current approach is aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.
