Washington: United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a new design for a limited-edition U.S. passport to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary. The commemorative passport features a distinctive design that prominently includes Trump’s image alongside iconic symbols of American history.
Sharing the design on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!'”
The prototype passport displays an image of President Trump seated behind the Resolute Desk, superimposed over the text of the historic Declaration of Independence. His signature appears embossed at the bottom of the page. The facing page features John Trumbull’s famous painting, The Declaration of Independence.
According to reports, the portrait of Trump used in the design appears to be inspired by his official portrait displayed at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington. The latest design differs from earlier concept images released by the U.S. Department of State earlier this year.
The White House later shared the same passport design on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as the “New U.S. Passport to Commemorate America’s 250th.”
The commemorative passport was first announced in April as part of nationwide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Officials said the limited-edition passport would feature custom artwork and enhanced imagery on its front, back and inside covers.
During the initial announcement, a U.S. official told CNN that the commemorative edition would initially become the default passport issued for in-person renewals at the Washington Passport Agency when available, while passport applications submitted online or through other agencies would continue to receive the existing design.
The standard U.S. passport currently features Percy Moran’s artwork depicting Francis Scott Key on the inside front cover, commemorating the events that inspired the writing of the U.S. national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Passages from the anthem are also printed inside the passport.
