Islamabad : According to international media reports, Pakistan is considering a significant increase in its defence budget for the upcoming financial year, which may reportedly reach up to $100 billion.
The report suggests that the proposed hike is being considered in view of regional security concerns and heightened tensions with India. The increased allocation is expected to focus on military modernization, procurement of advanced weapons, and strengthening overall defence capabilities.
Sources further indicate that Pakistan’s economy is already under considerable pressure, and such a sharp rise in defence spending could create additional challenges in maintaining fiscal balance. The country is currently operating under strict economic conditions and obligations linked with international financial institutions such as the IMF.
Experts believe that if the proposal is implemented, a large share of Pakistan’s total budget would be directed toward defence, potentially impacting development and social welfare programs.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Government of Pakistan so far, and the reports are being viewed as preliminary and speculative in nature.
