Srinagar: In a major step to strengthen tourist safety, authorities in Pahalgam have introduced a new QR code-based security system for all tourism-related service providers. Visitors can now scan QR codes to instantly access verified information about the person offering services.
The initiative has been launched to improve transparency and security at one of Jammu and Kashmir’s most visited tourist destinations. Under the system, pony operators, taxi drivers, tour guides, photographers, and vendors are being issued unique QR codes linked to their official records.
Tourists can scan the code using a smartphone camera or QR scanner to view key details such as the person’s name, registration status, mobile number, and verification record. Officials said the move is aimed at helping visitors identify genuine and authorised service providers.
Authorities added that thousands of QR codes have already been distributed, while the administration plans to bring nearly 25,000 tourism workers under the digital verification network.
Officials also stated that individuals without police verification or those with criminal records will not be eligible for registration under the scheme.
The administration believes the new system will enhance confidence among tourists, prevent fraud, and create a safer travel environment in Pahalgam.
