Tokyo Olympics 2021:Mirabai Chanu ended India’s 21-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the Olympics by clinching a silver medal in the 49kg category to open the country’s account on Saturday. The 26-year-old lifted a total of 202kg (87kg+115kg) to better Karnam Malleswari’s bronze in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The Archery Mixed Team pair of Jadhav and Deepika Kumari fell in the quarter-finals to South Korea. India’s Sai Praneeth lost in the Men’s Badminton Singles, but the doubles pair of Rankireddy and Shetty won their opening fixture. The Mixed Doubles pair of Batra and Achanta bowed out in Table Tennis after losing to Chinese Taipei. India Judoka Sushila lost in the Round of 16.
