Desk : Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia involving Iran and Israel, Pakistan’s claimed role as a mediator has come under sharp criticism from an Iranian lawmaker. A senior member of Iran’s parliament has launched a strong attack on Pakistan, describing it as an “unreliable” intermediary in regional diplomacy.
Iranian MP Ebrahim Rezaei said in a public statement that although Pakistan has been claiming to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States, its policies lack consistency and neutrality. He alleged that Pakistan frequently changes its stance based on strategic interests and external pressures, making it unfit for any credible mediation role.
Rezaei further stated that Pakistan’s past diplomatic engagements have not reflected transparency or balance, which has previously hindered progress on key regional issues.
His remarks come at a time when Pakistan has repeatedly asserted that it is playing an active role in easing tensions between Tehran and Washington. However, Iran has earlier also expressed skepticism over such claims.
Foreign policy experts believe the latest statement could trigger renewed debate over Pakistan’s diplomatic credibility and its role in sensitive West Asian negotiations at a time of heightened regional instability.
