Evian (France): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasised the importance of “trust” as the foundation of international cooperation while addressing the Outreach Session of the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian, France. He called for a new framework of global partnerships based on solidarity, equality and mutual respect rather than the traditional donor-recipient model.
Speaking at the session themed “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity,” Prime Minister Modi said that in an increasingly interconnected world, trust remains essential for building meaningful and effective international relationships.
Highlighting India’s approach to global engagement, the Prime Minister said the world must move beyond aid-based relationships and adopt partnerships that promote shared growth and collective responsibility.
He also underlined India’s “Humanity First” philosophy, pointing to several India-led international initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), the Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. According to Modi, these initiatives reflect India’s commitment to addressing global challenges through collaborative action.
Reiterating India’s civilisational ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world is one family — the Prime Minister said India remains firmly committed to advancing sustainable and inclusive development across the globe.
Prime Minister Modi attended the summit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. This marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit as a partner nation and Modi’s seventh consecutive appearance at the forum.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi briefly interacted with US President Donald Trump following the traditional family photograph. Visuals from the event showed the two leaders exchanging a handshake and a short conversation. They were also seated next to each other during the G7 Outreach Session.
The summit’s family photograph featured several prominent world leaders, including European Council President Antonio Costa, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Apart from the multilateral sessions, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with key global leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
A much-anticipated bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump is also expected on June 17. According to the White House, discussions are likely to focus on advancing the proposed India–US trade agreement and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
