Washington : A new congressional assessment has revealed significant alleged losses suffered by the United States Air Force during the reported military campaign “Operation Epic Fury” against Iran. According to the report, a total of 42 military aircraft were either lost or damaged during the operation.
The congressional evaluation states that the figures are based on preliminary inputs from the Pentagon, CENTCOM (Central Command), and other defense-related sources. However, it also notes that the data should not yet be considered final, as comprehensive audits and verification processes are still underway.
The report suggests that the losses were not limited to fighter jets alone but also included a wider range of aerial assets such as tanker aircraft, surveillance platforms, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Preliminary assessments indicate that advanced platforms including F-15E and F-35A fighter jets, KC-135 and KC-46 refueling tankers, E-3 AWACS surveillance aircraft, and MQ-9 Reaper drones may be part of the reported losses.
Defense analysts say that if these figures are confirmed, the financial impact of the operation could run into billions of dollars, considering the cost of replacement aircraft, maintenance, and advanced military systems.
However, the U.S. Department of Defense has not issued a final confirmation of the reported numbers. Officials have emphasized that early battlefield reports are often revised as more accurate post-operation assessments become available.
Following the release of the report, questions have emerged regarding the operational cost, effectiveness, and strategic outcomes of the campaign. Some analysts argue that such levels of aerial losses, if verified, could indicate serious challenges in modern air combat environments and evolving defense threats.
