Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome, the capital of Italy, on Tuesday as the final leg of his five-nation foreign tour. He was warmly welcomed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who shared a photograph with PM Modi on social media platform X and wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend.”
Upon his arrival in Rome, Prime Minister Modi was received at the airport by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. A large number of members from the Indian diaspora gathered to greet the Prime Minister with waving tricolours and patriotic slogans. PM Modi also interacted with the community members and acknowledged their enthusiastic welcome.
A cultural programme organised in honour of the Prime Minister showcased Indian classical music and traditional performances, offering a vibrant glimpse of India’s rich cultural heritage and civilization.
During his Italy visit, PM Modi is also expected to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella. His bilateral talks with Prime Minister Meloni are likely to focus on key areas including trade, defence cooperation, clean energy, technology, maritime security, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
According to diplomatic sources, both India and Italy are looking to further strengthen their strategic partnership. Significant discussions are expected around defence manufacturing, green energy collaboration, and investment partnerships.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit comes at a time when new global economic and strategic alliances are taking shape worldwide. In this context, the growing closeness between India and Italy is being viewed as strategically important for both Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.
The Italy visit marks the final stop of PM Modi’s extensive five-country foreign tour. Earlier, he held high-level discussions with leaders from several European nations on issues related to energy, technology, trade, and global cooperation.
