During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent European tour, he received a warm and culturally rich welcome in Slovakia. Upon his arrival in Bratislava, he was greeted with “bread and salt,” a traditional gesture symbolizing hospitality, respect, and goodwill in Slovak culture.

This visit holds historic significance as it marks the first time since Slovakia became an independent nation in 1993 that an Indian Prime Minister has officially visited the country.

Cultural Reception and Celebrations

The welcome ceremony for PM Modi also showcased Slovakia’s vibrant cultural heritage. Traditional folk performances were organized during the reception, adding color and warmth to the diplomatic engagement.

In a special gesture of cultural harmony, Slovak artists performed the Indian patriotic composition “Vande Mataram,” highlighting the growing cultural bridge between the two nations.

Members of the Indian diaspora in Slovakia also participated enthusiastically, further strengthening people-to-people ties.
