Rule of land supreme, not your policy: Twitter told by parliamentary board

New Delhi: Members of the parliamentary panel on information technology, headed by Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor, told Twitter on Friday that the law of the land is supreme and that the micro-blogging site will have to abide by them if they operate in India.

It is learnt that when committee members asked Twitter whether its company rules are more important than the laws framed by the government, Twitter representatives reportedly gave a “vague response” saying “Twitter rules are equally important for them”.

This, sources said, was not viewed positively by the committee.
