US–India Relations at Lowest Point in Decades, Says Ro Khanna

Desk : Indian-origin US Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna has launched one of his strongest political attacks on former President Donald Trump, claiming that his policies pushed India–US relations to their lowest point in 30 years.

Speaking at the “US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit,” Khanna said that anyone doubting his remarks should directly ask India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He further claimed that during his recent visit to China, India’s ambassador there reportedly told him that trust between India and the United States had significantly eroded due to Trump’s policies.

“I am not someone who sugarcoats things. I say it as it is. India–US relations are at their lowest point in 30 years,” Khanna said.

He also described Trump’s Iran policy as “destructive,” alleging that it had an indirect impact on oil and gas prices in India. He added that if anyone had doubts about his claims, they could verify them with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The Democratic lawmaker further criticized Trump’s broader foreign policy, referring to his stance on Iran, Cuba, and remarks about Greenland, saying the United States was losing its traditional moral direction.

“American foreign policy has become a ‘might makes right’ approach. We are normalizing abnormal behavior,” he said.

Khanna also pointed to artificial intelligence developments, noting that a significant share of top AI researchers are of Chinese origin. He argued that the US must focus on attracting global talent rather than pushing it away.

Concluding his remarks, Khanna called Trump an “ineffective president” and claimed that the Democratic Party is poised for strong victories in the upcoming midterm elections and the 2028 presidential race.
