Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again criticised media coverage of the West Asia conflict, accusing news organisations of bias against his administration and suggesting that even Iran’s surrender would be portrayed as a victory for Tehran.
Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social, where he lashed out at media outlets and Democrats over what he described as a distorted narrative surrounding the conflict. He referred to Democrats as “dumacrats” in his post.
“If Iran surrenders, admits their Navy is gone and resting at the bottom of the sea, and their Air Force is no longer with us, and if their entire military walks out of Tehran, weapons dropped and hands held high, each shouting ‘I surrender,’ while waving the white flag, and if their remaining leadership signs all necessary documents of surrender and admits defeat to the great power of the U.S.A., The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and other fake news media will headline it as a masterful Iranian victory over the United States,” Trump wrote.
He further said that Democrats and the media “have totally lost their way” and “have gone absolutely crazy.”
Trump’s post reflects his continued criticism of mainstream media organisations and their reporting on foreign policy and national security issues, particularly regarding Iran. However, he did not specify which report triggered his latest reaction.
Last month, Trump had also criticised The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal over their coverage of the Iran conflict. He accused The New York Times of publishing false narratives and demanded an apology, describing its reporting as “fake news.”
In another post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran had been “totally obliterated militarily and otherwise,” despite media portrayals suggesting otherwise. He also rejected The Wall Street Journal’s editorial suggestion that his declaration of victory in the Iran conflict was premature.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military recently carried out “self-defence strikes” targeting Iranian missile launch sites and boats near the Strait of Hormuz amid an ongoing ceasefire between the two countries. Iran condemned the strikes, calling them evidence of Washington’s “dishonesty and unreliability,” even as diplomatic efforts continue to resolve tensions in the region.
