Why Do We Clap Three Times in Front of the Shivlinga?

In Hinduism, fasting and worship hold a special place, and among them, Som Pradosh Vrat stands out as highly sacred and potent. This vrat is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is observed monthly during the Pradosh period, which occurs on the 13th day (Trayodashi) of each lunar fortnight. The vrat holds special significance when it falls on a Monday, known as Somvar, which is considered highly auspicious for Shiva worship.

Timing and Significance of Pradosh:
Pradosh period begins approximately two hours before and after sunset. This is considered the most favorable time for Shiva worship. Devotees believe that prayers and rituals performed during this time bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment.

Rituals of Som Pradosh Vrat:
Devotees begin by taking a ritual bath before sunset and prepare to observe the fast. The vrat can be observed with water, fruits, or a complete fast, depending on the devotee’s tradition. The Shiva Lingam is worshiped with offerings of light, incense, and Panchamrit (a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar). Special offerings of Bel leaves are also made to honor Lord Shiva.
