Desk: Russia has once again backed India’s long-standing position that issues between India and Pakistan are strictly bilateral and do not require third-party mediation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that India is not interested in external interference and Moscow fully respects this policy.
In an interview with RT, Lavrov said India has consistently maintained that regional disputes should be resolved through direct dialogue between the concerned nations. He added that Russia understands and supports India’s approach on the matter.
Lavrov further said that Russia supports peace and stability in South Asia, but also recognizes that India does not accept outside intervention in matters related to its national interests and security. Referring to recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, he said Russia stands firmly with India in the fight against terrorism.
Russia also reassured India regarding energy supplies. Lavrov stated that despite global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, Russia will continue its energy cooperation with India. He said agreements related to oil and gas supplies would be honored and India’s interests would be protected.
The statement comes at a time when rising tensions in West Asia and instability in global energy markets have raised concerns over energy security for many countries, including India. In this context, Russia’s assurance is being viewed as significant for New Delhi.
Over the past few years, Russia has emerged as one of India’s key energy partners, with cooperation in crude oil imports steadily expanding. Experts believe the latest statement is not only a diplomatic endorsement of India’s position but also a signal of strengthening strategic ties between the two countries.
