Desk: Amid rising tensions in West Asia, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly told External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar that all commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz must immediately comply with instructions issued by US forces.

According to reports, the US has stressed that no deviation from operational directives in this strategically sensitive maritime route will be tolerated, and surveillance of commercial shipping in the region is being tightened amid ongoing security concerns linked to Iran and regional instability.

The development comes at a time when maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz remains highly sensitive due to geopolitical tensions. The United States has emphasized strict adherence to its security protocols for vessels navigating the area.

India, on its part, has underscored the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted maritime trade flows, given the Strait of Hormuz’s critical role in global energy supply chains.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints, and any disruption in the region could have significant implications for global energy markets.
