As summer arrives, the refreshing aroma of raw mangoes begins to fill Indian kitchens. From traditional panna to spicy chutneys, raw mango is one of the season’s most loved ingredients. But turning this tangy fruit into a creamy homemade ice cream adds an entirely new level of flavor and freshness to summer desserts.
This raw mango ice cream is deliciously sweet, mildly tangy, and incredibly refreshing. The best part is that it requires only a few ingredients and can be prepared easily at home without any complicated process.
Ingredients
- 2 medium-sized raw mangoes
- 1 cup condensed milk
- 1 cup fresh cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
- A pinch of black salt
- Roasted cumin powder (optional)
Method
Begin by washing and peeling the raw mangoes. Cut them into small pieces and boil them in a little water until soft and tender. Allow them to cool, then blend into a smooth puree.
In a large bowl, lightly whip the fresh cream. Add condensed milk and sugar, mixing well until smooth. Now fold in the raw mango puree. To enhance the traditional Indian flavor, add black salt, cardamom powder, and a little roasted cumin powder if desired.
Transfer the mixture into an airtight container and place it in the freezer for about 7 to 8 hours. For a creamier texture, stir the mixture once or twice during the freezing process.
Once fully set, scoop the ice cream into bowls and garnish with small mango pieces or fresh mint leaves before serving.
Add a Traditional Twist
If you enjoy spicy and tangy flavors, sprinkle a little chaat masala or red chili powder on top before serving. It beautifully enhances the raw mango’s natural sharpness and gives the dessert a unique desi touch.
Cool, creamy, and packed with the nostalgic flavor of summer, this raw mango ice cream is the perfect homemade treat for hot afternoons.
