Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Sweden’s prestigious “Royal Order of the Polar Star,” one of the country’s highest state honours awarded to foreign heads of state and government leaders.
The honour was presented to Prime Minister Modi by Crown Princess Victoria during a special ceremony held in Gothenburg. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and several senior officials were also present at the event.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the award recognises Prime Minister Modi’s contribution towards strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Sweden, particularly in the fields of green technology, innovation, trade, defence, space cooperation, and climate action.
The Royal Order of the Polar Star was established in 1748 and is awarded to individuals for exceptional contributions to Sweden and international relations.
After receiving the honour, Prime Minister Modi dedicated it to the people of India and the growing friendship between India and Sweden. He said the recognition reflects the deepening ties and shared democratic values between the two nations.
Notably, this is the 31st international honour received by Prime Minister Modi from a foreign nation, reflecting India’s growing diplomatic stature on the global stage.
