According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this will be India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit as a partner nation and PM Modi’s seventh consecutive appearance at the forum.
Addressing a special media briefing on Thursday, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said that Prime Minister Modi is visiting France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. The G7 Summit, scheduled from June 15 to 17, will bring together leaders of major economies and partner countries to discuss pressing global challenges.
Sibi George stated that India’s continued participation in the summit reflects the growing international recognition of the country’s role in addressing issues related to global peace, security, sustainable development and environmental protection. He noted that the Prime Minister will engage with world leaders on matters of importance to India as well as the Global South.
The outreach sessions of the summit will focus on renewing international partnerships, strengthening development cooperation, promoting balanced and inclusive economic growth, and ensuring the safe and effective deployment of artificial intelligence. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with G7 leaders, representatives of partner countries and heads of international organisations.
The visit will begin in Nice, France, on June 13-14, where PM Modi will hold talks with President Macron to review the full spectrum of India-France relations, which have been elevated to a Special Global Strategic Partnership. The two leaders will also jointly inaugurate the “Bharat Innovates” event, bringing together leading startups, investors and venture capitalists from India, France and other countries.
