Desk : A court in Norway has sentenced Marius Borg Høiby, the stepson of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to four years in prison after finding him guilty in serious rape cases. The verdict was delivered by a court in Oslo after a trial that lasted several weeks.

According to the court, the 29-year-old was found guilty in two rape cases. He was also charged with domestic violence, drug-related offences, and other criminal allegations. The prosecution had sought a sentence of more than seven years, while the defence argued for acquittal on most serious charges.

During the trial, prosecutors alleged that the accused engaged in inappropriate and non-consensual conduct with several women, including incidents where the victims were either incapacitated or unable to resist. The defence denied the major allegations, though it acknowledged some minor offences.

In its judgment, the court stated that the evidence, including digital records and witness testimonies, clearly established the accused’s involvement in the crimes. However, it also acquitted him of some similar charges.

Marius Borg Høiby is not an official member or heir of the Norwegian royal family, but due to his family connections, the case has drawn significant national and international media attention.

He has the right to appeal against the verdict. The case has sparked renewed debate in Norway over accountability and public scrutiny involving individuals linked to the royal family.
