Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that no tolls will be allowed on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. He said the United States would oppose any attempt by Iran to impose charges on international shipping using the waterway.

Trump’s remarks came amid ongoing efforts to maintain free navigation through the Strait following recent diplomatic engagements between Washington and Tehran. In a statement posted on social media, the US President emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a critical artery for global trade and energy supplies and must remain open to all nations without restrictions or fees.

According to Trump, the current understanding regarding navigation through the Strait does not permit the collection of tolls from commercial vessels. He warned that any move to alter this arrangement could lead to serious consequences and further complicate relations between the two countries.

The Strait of Hormuz is widely regarded as one of the most important chokepoints in the world economy. A significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes through the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with international markets. Any disruption in the region has the potential to impact global energy prices and international trade.

Iran has previously indicated that it could consider imposing charges on ships using the route under certain circumstances. The United States, however, has consistently rejected such proposals, arguing that freedom of navigation in international waters must be protected.

US officials have maintained that the Strait remains open and that American naval forces continue to monitor the area closely to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels. Washington has repeatedly stressed that uninterrupted maritime traffic through the region is essential for global economic stability.

Analysts believe that the future status of the Strait of Hormuz could become a key issue in upcoming negotiations between the United States and Iran. The international community is now closely watching whether the two sides can reach a broader and more durable agreement that prevents further tensions in the strategically vital region.
