You may have noticed that some places instantly make you feel calm, while others create a sense of heaviness or discomfort within minutes. According to Vastu Shastra, this difference is believed to be influenced by the energy and overall vibration of a place. Spaces associated with negative energy are said to affect the mind, making it difficult to feel peaceful or focused.
If similar uneasiness is being experienced inside your own home—such as constant restlessness or unexplained stress—Vastu Shastra suggests certain simple practices that may help improve the environment. One such practice is related to the way floor cleaning is done at home.
What to Keep in Mind While Mopping
Regular cleaning of the house is considered important in Vastu Shastra, not just for hygiene but also for maintaining positive energy. Traditional beliefs suggest that lack of cleanliness may increase negative influences. Mopping the floor, therefore, is seen as a key daily activity.
According to Vastu guidelines, adding plain salt or sea salt to the water used for mopping is believed to help reduce negative energy inside the house. Some practitioners also recommend adding a small amount of lemon juice to the water for similar reasons.
Right Time and Direction for Mopping
Vastu Shastra considers Brahma Muhurta (early morning hours) as the most suitable time for mopping the house. If that is not possible, cleaning the floors just before or shortly after sunrise is also considered beneficial. It is believed that cleaning during these hours helps maintain a more positive atmosphere at home.
Experts advise avoiding mopping during the afternoon, as it is said to disturb the home’s energy balance. Additionally, Vastu texts suggest starting the mopping process from the north-east (Ishan) direction of the house.
