Maa Skandamata Puja: Rituals, Mantra, and Offerings

The fifth day of Navratri is dedicated to the fifth form of Goddess Durga, Skandamata. This day symbolizes the perfect harmony of motherhood, compassion, and शक्ति (divine power). Skandamata is the mother of Lord Kartikeya (also known as Skanda), and her worship is believed to bless devotees with courage, wisdom, and spiritual fulfillment.

The Form and Significance of Skandamata

Goddess Skandamata is depicted seated on a lotus, which is why she is also known as Padmasana Devi. She has four arms—two holding lotus flowers, one carrying her child Skanda, and one in a blessing gesture (varamudra). Her form signifies that true strength arises from love, care, and nurturing energy.
Worshipping her is said to awaken the heart chakra (Anahata), enhancing compassion, emotional balance, and inner peace.

Rituals of Worship

On this day, devotees should begin with a purifying bath and wear clean clothes. The place of worship should be sanctified, and an idol or image of Skandamata should be स्थापित with devotion. Offer flowers, incense, lamps, and food (naivedya). Bananas are considered especially auspicious as an offering.
While performing the पूजा, maintain focus and devotion, and pray for peace, prosperity, and well-being.
