Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed speculation that he is planning to leave the Trump administration, reaffirming his commitment to serving throughout President Donald Trump’s second term.
Rubio said that working for President Trump for the entire duration of his second term had always been his plan. His remarks come amid growing speculation about his political future following reports suggesting that he could consider stepping down after the Republican Party faced setbacks in the US midterm elections.
‘I Don’t Know Where These Stories Come From’
In an interview with The New York Times, Rubio addressed reports about his possible departure and made it clear that he had no plans to resign.
He said that serving President Trump throughout his second term had always been his intention. Expressing surprise over the rumours, Rubio added that he did not know where such reports were originating.
Rubio also indicated that he enjoys his current responsibilities. When asked about the possibility of leaving his position, he reportedly responded with humour, questioning which job people were referring to, given that he holds multiple responsibilities.
White House and State Department Reject Reports
The White House and the US State Department have also dismissed speculation surrounding Rubio’s possible resignation.
State Department Assistant Secretary Dylan Johnson described the reports as completely unfounded. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle also rejected the claims, calling them fabricated stories based on anonymous sources.
Earlier, a Bloomberg report had suggested that Rubio and his advisers were considering his future political options. The report also claimed that discussions had taken place with White House officials regarding a possible departure, although no final decision or timeline had reportedly been established.
Rubio Avoids Comment on 2028 Presidential Race
Rubio is considered one of the potential Republican contenders for the 2028 US presidential election. Vice President JD Vance is also viewed as a prominent potential candidate.
However, Rubio declined to discuss his political ambitions for 2028, making it clear that he does not want to get involved in speculation about the next presidential race at this stage.
Currently serving as US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser, Rubio’s latest remarks appear aimed at putting an end to speculation about his departure and reaffirming his position within the Trump administration.
