Desk : At least six people, including three paramilitary personnel and three terrorists, were killed after militants attacked the local headquarters of the Pakistan Sindh Rangers in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on Saturday. Security forces later sealed off the area and launched a clearance operation.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho said the attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of the Rangers headquarters in an apparent attempt to breach the compound. Authorities were initially unable to confirm whether the vehicle had exploded during the assault.
Following the attack, commandos of the Special Security Unit (SSU), the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), and Sindh Rangers launched a joint mopping-up operation to secure the premises. One injured paramilitary trooper, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Witnesses reported heavy gunfire and an explosion during the attack, prompting law enforcement agencies to rush to the scene. Rescue 1122 Sindh also dispatched emergency response teams immediately after receiving reports of the blast near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 5.
The attack was later claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, an affiliate of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban. The group claimed that nine militants participated in the assault. The incident comes amid a rise in militant attacks targeting Pakistan’s security forces across the country.
Earlier this year, a suicide bombing at a Shia Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area killed at least 31 people and injured 169 others, prompting the United States Embassy in Pakistan to issue a security advisory for American citizens.
