Desk : Iran has sharply dismissed US President Donald Trump’s remarks about a possible meeting with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi describing the idea as unrealistic and urging people to “live in the real world.”
Trump recently stated that he would be willing to meet Khamenei if such a meeting could help ease tensions and contribute to peace efforts between the two countries. He suggested that direct dialogue could be one of the options for resolving long-standing disputes.
Responding to the comments, Araghchi said that under the current circumstances, the prospects of such a meeting remain extremely remote. He emphasized that the United States should focus on understanding the realities on the ground rather than making political statements.
The Iranian foreign minister noted that deep differences and ongoing regional tensions between the two nations make discussions about a high-level meeting appear detached from reality. According to him, if Washington genuinely seeks improved relations, it must demonstrate changes in its policies and approach.
The United States and Iran have remained at odds for years over issues including Iran’s nuclear program, regional security concerns, and economic sanctions. Tensions have intensified in recent months, further complicating efforts to restore diplomatic engagement.
Analysts believe that unless both sides take concrete steps to rebuild trust, the chances of a major diplomatic breakthrough or a high-profile meeting will remain limited.
