Jyeshtha Purnima 2025: A Day of Divine Giving

In Hinduism, Ekadashi fasts hold a special place, and among them, Kamada Ekadashi is considered exceptionally sacred. Observing this fast is believed to pave the way for wealth, happiness, health, and spiritual liberation. Kamada Ekadashi falls on the Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of the month of Shravana and is especially auspicious for those seeking liberation from sins and spiritual progress.

Significance of the Fast

The very meaning of Kamada Ekadashi is “the one that destroys all desires and sins.” Ancient scriptures mention that observing this fast purifies the devotee’s life and grants the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Worshipping Vishnu on this day is believed to bring prosperity, peace, and happiness into life.

This fast is particularly considered beneficial for marital bliss and the blessing of children. Beyond material benefits, it is also a path for purifying the mind, intellect, and soul.

Rules of Observance

To observe Kamada Ekadashi properly, devotees follow certain essential guidelines:

  1. Nirjala Fast: Devotees ideally refrain from both food and water throughout the day. If health issues prevent this, fruits, milk, and light meals are permitted.
  2. Truth and Non-violence: Avoid lying, causing harm, or engaging in negative actions during the day.
  3. Religious Practices: Devotees should worship Lord Vishnu, sing devotional songs, and recite hymns. Recitation of the Vishnu Sahasranama is considered highly meritorious.
  4. Charity: Donating to the poor, offering food to the needy, or supporting temples and cows is considered especially auspicious.

Sankalpa and Worship

Before taking the fast, one should sincerely express devotion at the feet of Lord Vishnu. The devotee can take the following resolution:

“I resolve to observe the sacred fast of Kamada Ekadashi with devotion and sincerity. Through this fast, I seek liberation from all my sins and the blessings and grace of Lord Vishnu.”

During the evening, devotees light a lamp before the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu, perform Aarti, and sing bhajans. The fast is broken on the next day, Dwadasi, after sunrise.

Conclusion

Kamada Ekadashi is not only a symbol of religious faith but also a source of spiritual purification and positive energy. Observing this fast with devotion and discipline leads to liberation from sins, as well as happiness, prosperity, and peace in life.

On this sacred occasion, embracing Kamada Ekadashi is a means to purify the body, mind, and soul, offering both spiritual progress and divine blessings.
