New Delhi: Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is planning a visit to India late April, Kyodo News quoted government sources as saying in Tokyo on Wednesday. The dates though are still to be finalised as India sees a fresh surge in Covid infections.
“Japan seeks to reaffirm cooperation with the countries over its vision of a ‘free and open Indo-Pacific’ region through the trips, which are subject to changes depending on the Covid situation,” said the report.
PM Modi and Suga spoke last month on phone and discussed collaboration bilaterally as well as under the Quad framework to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. Yoshihide also expressed serious concerns regarding “unilateral attempts” to change the status quo in the East and South China Sea, in an apparent reference to China’s expansionist behaviour.
