Iran Calls on BRICS to Take Firm Stand Against US, Israel Actions

Desk : Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, Iran has urged the BRICS grouping to take a clear and firm stand against alleged violations of international law by the United States and Israel. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that global platforms must now move beyond silence and adopt a clear moral and legal position.

Araghchi made the remarks during the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, where the situation in West Asia and regional conflicts were key agenda items. He stated that the actions of the US and Israel go against international rules and the spirit of the United Nations Charter, contributing to rising regional instability.

The Iranian foreign minister called on BRICS countries not to limit themselves to expressing concern, but to collectively issue a strong and unambiguous condemnation of what Iran considers violations of international law.

However, diplomatic sources indicated that differences emerged within BRICS over the issue. Diverging foreign policy priorities and regional interests among member states made it difficult to reach a unified and strong joint statement.

India maintained a balanced stance during the meeting. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized that the security of international waterways and regional stability are crucial for the global economy. He added that BRICS should function as a force that promotes stability and reduces tensions.

Experts believe that the ongoing conflict in West Asia, along with divisions within BRICS, could impact global energy supplies and trade routes. Strategic corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz remain a major concern due to rising instability in the region.

Iran’s appeal comes at a time when BRICS is already facing challenges in maintaining a unified position on sensitive geopolitical issues. The grouping now faces the task of balancing diverse national interests while attempting to present a coherent global stance.
