New Delhi: Despite pressure and sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia, India has made it clear that it will continue purchasing crude oil from Russia while keeping its national interests at the forefront. India believes that energy security, economic stability, and relief for its citizens remain its top priorities.
According to sources, India has consistently maintained that decisions related to oil imports are based on domestic needs and economic interests, not external pressure. Therefore, US sanctions or warnings are unlikely to have any major impact on India’s policy.
Relatively cheaper crude oil from Russia has proven beneficial for India. It has helped in controlling fuel prices and easing inflationary pressure in the domestic market. This is one of the key reasons India appears determined to maintain this supply.
Experts believe that amid changing global circumstances and energy uncertainty, India is following a pragmatic and multi-aligned foreign policy focused on protecting its own interests. Continuing oil imports from Russia is being seen as part of that strategic approach.
