Seoul: India and the Republic of Korea are well positioned to expand cooperation in the defence sector in a rapidly evolving global security environment, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday.
Addressing the India–Republic of Korea Defence Industry Roundtable in Seoul, Singh noted that defence industrial systems worldwide are undergoing a major transformation driven by emerging technologies, which are reshaping the nature of warfare.
“Defence industrial ecosystems are undergoing rapid transformation around the world today. Emerging technologies are redefining the character of warfare. Manufacturing is becoming increasingly technology-intensive. Supply chains are being reconfigured and innovation cycles are becoming shorter than ever before,” he said.
He added that ongoing technological disruption in the defence sector is both a cause and consequence of shifting geostrategic dynamics, making trusted partnerships between technologically advanced nations increasingly important.
“In such an environment, trusted partnership between technologically capable nations acquires immense strategic importance. India and Republic of Korea are positioned to work together in this changing global landscape,” Singh said.
Highlighting South Korea’s industrial strengths, Singh said the country has emerged as one of the world’s leading manufacturing hubs with global leadership in sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, shipbuilding, automotive manufacturing, advanced batteries, petrochemicals and defence production.
The Defence Minister further noted that Korean shipyards are among the most advanced and efficient globally, reflecting the country’s strong industrial and technological base.
“It is my privilege to join this distinguished gathering of industry leaders, innovators, technology experts, policymakers and strategic partners from India and the Republic of Korea,” Singh added.
