United Nations: India delivered a clear and firm message at the United Nations, stating that threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz are completely unacceptable. India emphasized that safe and uninterrupted navigation through the crucial maritime route must be ensured.
During discussions on the West Asia situation at the UN, India’s Permanent Representative said that the Strait of Hormuz is vital for India’s energy security, trade interests, and economic stability. Rising tensions in the region, he noted, are a matter of serious global concern.
India strongly stated that attacks on merchant vessels, disruption of sea lanes, and endangering the lives of innocent sailors cannot be justified under any circumstances. It urged all sides to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions, and respect international maritime laws.
India also highlighted that recent regional tensions have impacted Indian sailors and trade, making the matter particularly significant for the country.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategic maritime passages, through which a major share of global oil supplies passes. Any instability in the region could affect international markets, oil prices, and global trade.
