Desk:Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised India’s independent foreign policy, saying that India has never yielded to pressure or dictates from any foreign power. He emphasized that India makes its decisions based on national interests and sovereign priorities, a principle that has earned it global respect.
Speaking during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Putin said that countries such as India and China are capable of pursuing independent policies and cannot be compelled to act against their interests through external pressure. According to him, India has consistently demonstrated its ability to make sovereign decisions without being influenced by foreign demands.
The Russian president’s remarks come amid continued discussions in the West regarding India’s close ties with Russia. Putin suggested that attempts to weaken India-Russia relations through political pressure are unlikely to succeed, as the partnership between the two countries is built on mutual trust, respect, and long-standing cooperation.
He described India as a reliable and important partner for Russia, highlighting growing cooperation in sectors such as energy, defense, trade, and technology. Putin also praised India’s economic growth and technological achievements, noting its increasing influence in the global economy.
During his address, Putin further stated that efforts to isolate Russia internationally had failed. He claimed that despite sanctions and restrictions imposed by Western nations, Russia continues to maintain strong economic and strategic relations with many countries around the world.
Observers believe Putin’s comments reflect Russia’s recognition of India’s policy of strategic autonomy, under which New Delhi continues to pursue its national interests while maintaining balanced relations with major global powers.
