New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, as both countries continue efforts to deepen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Earlier in the day, the Japanese Prime Minister was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where she was also presented with a Guard of Honour. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a post on social media platform X, stated, “Further strengthening our special partnership. PM @takaichi_sanae of Japan was accorded a ceremonial reception at the Forecourt of @rashtrapatibhvn. A partnership for the future, built on trust and rooted in shared values.”
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi introduced his Cabinet colleagues and other dignitaries to the visiting Japanese leader.
Japan also expressed enthusiasm about the visit. The Japanese Cabinet Public Relations Office posted on X, “Our heartfelt thanks for your warm welcome. We are very much excited to be visiting India!”
In another post, it said that the summit meeting between the two leaders would follow the ceremonial welcome.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is on a three-day official visit to India from July 1 to 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. During her visit, she will participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, where both sides are expected to review the full range of bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the summit will provide an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation in strategic, economic, technological, and security domains. Key focus areas are expected to include boosting investment, innovation, strengthening resilient supply chains, and expanding cooperation in sectors such as semiconductors and critical minerals.
Diplomatic sources indicate that discussions are also likely to cover maritime security, defence technology cooperation, and the development of an “Industrial Value Chain” linking the Bay of Bengal with India’s Northeast region.
The Japanese Prime Minister is also scheduled to participate in the India-Japan Business Forum, where government and industry leaders from both countries will explore ways to enhance investment and commercial cooperation.
Her visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, as both nations continue to strengthen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership amid evolving regional and global challenges.
