Amla (Indian gooseberry) is widely known for its remarkable health benefits. Rich in vitamin C and powerful antioxidants, it is especially beneficial for maintaining healthy hair and glowing skin. For this reason, many nutritionists recommend including amla in your daily diet. Fresh amla juice, in particular, is considered the most effective way to consume it.

However, once the winter season ends, fresh amla becomes difficult to find. Most people then rely on dried amla or commercially available amla powder, the purity and quality of which are often uncertain. If you miss the benefits of fresh amla and want to enjoy it for months, proper refrigeration and freezing can help preserve it effectively.

Here is a simple and reliable method to store fresh amla in the refrigerator so it stays fresh for a long time.

Step-by-Step Method to Store Amla

Begin by selecting good-quality amlas. Carefully inspect them and remove any fruits with spots, bruises, or blemishes, as even a single spoiled amla can cause others to deteriorate quickly.

Wash the amlas thoroughly under clean running water to remove any dirt or impurities.

After washing, spread them out on a clean towel and allow them to dry completely. This step is important, as excess moisture can lead to spoilage.

Once the amlas are fully dry, arrange them on a large tray. Make sure that none of the amlas are stacked on top of each other and that there is enough space between them so they remain separate.

Place the tray in the freezer for about three to four hours. During this time, the amlas will begin to freeze.

After removing the tray, check that all the amlas have become completely solid. Once frozen, transfer them into a zip-lock bag or an airtight freezer-safe container and store them back in the freezer.

How to Use Frozen Amla

When needed, take out only the required number of amlas from the bag. Leave them in the refrigerator for some time so they can gradually return to a normal temperature and become suitable for use.

Avoid using hot water to defrost the amlas, as this can affect their texture and nutritional value. They will naturally thaw on their own without any difficulty.

By following this method, fresh amla can be stored safely for several months and even up to a year, allowing you to enjoy its health benefits long after the season has ended.
