According to the Vedic Panchang, the holy month of Phalguna will commence on February 2, 2026, and conclude on March 3, 2026. Chaitra month will begin on March 4, 2026. The twelfth day (Dwadashi) of the Shukla Paksha in Phalguna is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu in his Narasimha incarnation. Magha Mela 2026: Two Major Bathing Days in February
The Magha Mela at the sacred Sangam in Prayagraj is regarded as a major center of religious devotion. Traditionally, six principal bathing dates are observed during the Magha Mela. The period of Kalpavas begins on Pausha Purnima and concludes on Magha Purnima.
In February 2026, the remaining two major bathing days will take place. The fifth significant bath will be observed on Magha Purnima, February 1, 2026. The final and sixth sacred bath will be held on February 15, 2026, coinciding with Mahashivratri.
Mahashivratri: The Major Festival of February 2026
Mahashivratri is observed on the fourteenth lunar day (Chaturdashi) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalguna. According to religious scriptures, on this sacred night Lord Shiva manifested as an infinite pillar of fire before Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. A divine proclamation declared that devotees who remain awake throughout the night and worship the Shiva Linga would attain eternal spiritual merit.
Fasting, night-long vigil, and ritual worship of Lord Shiva are integral to the observance of Mahashivratri. The festival also marks the conclusion of the Magha Mela following the final sacred bath.
