Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump are set to hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, marking their first in-person meeting in 16 months.
According to U.S. officials, the two leaders are expected to meet during the G7 Summit scheduled for June 16-17. Their last face-to-face interaction took place in Washington in February 2025.
The meeting is expected to focus on a range of issues, including trade relations, energy cooperation, technology partnerships, supply chain resilience and visa-related matters. Discussions may also cover the proposed India-U.S. trade agreement and H-1B visa policies.
Prime Minister Modi is visiting France and Slovakia as part of a multi-nation tour. In France, he will participate in the G7 Summit and hold separate bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron. India’s continued invitation to the G7 reflects its growing role in global economic and strategic affairs.
The summit is expected to address key global challenges, including economic growth, artificial intelligence, climate change, energy security and geopolitical developments. Modi is also likely to hold meetings with several world leaders attending the event.
The upcoming Modi-Trump meeting is being viewed as significant for the future of India-U.S. ties, particularly at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen cooperation in trade, technology and strategic sectors.
