New Delhi : India has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening its indigenous defence capabilities. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile ‘Pralay’ on Thursday. The test was carried out from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the missile successfully met all the designated objectives and performance parameters during the trial. Senior DRDO scientists, representatives of the armed forces and industry partners were present during the test. Data collected through various range instruments confirmed the successful performance of the missile.
Strike Range of 350 to 500 Kilometres
Pralay is a surface-to-surface missile powered by a solid-fuel propulsion system. It has an estimated strike range of approximately 350 to 500 kilometres and is capable of carrying different types of conventional warheads.
One of its key features is its quasi-ballistic technology, which allows the missile to alter its trajectory and direction during flight. This capability can make it challenging for an enemy’s air defence systems to intercept.
The missile has been developed by Hyderabad-based Research Centre Imarat (RCI), in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has also played an important role in its production.
Missile to Strengthen India’s Defence Preparedness
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the armed forces and industry partners on the successful test. He stated that the advanced missile would further enhance the technological capabilities and operational preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces.
The successful flight test is being considered an important achievement for India’s defence sector. It is also expected to pave the way for the missile’s induction into the armed forces.
The development reflects India’s continued commitment to strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign defence equipment.
