Desk : The United Arab Emirates is in discussions with India to procure advanced defence systems, including the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and the Akashteer air defence system, amid rising security tensions in the Middle East.
According to sources, the talks are currently at an early stage but are progressing rapidly. The UAE has shown interest in several Indian-made defence platforms as part of its efforts to strengthen military capabilities.
The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world and can be launched from land, sea, and air platforms. The Akashteer system is an automated air defence command-and-control network designed to integrate radar inputs and provide real-time response against aerial threats.
The deal would require approval from Russia due to its joint development structure, although officials believe this is unlikely to be a major hurdle.
India has been actively expanding its defence exports in recent years, with countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines already emerging as key buyers. The potential UAE deal is seen as a major step in deepening India–Gulf strategic defence cooperation.
