New Delhi : The Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff. He will take charge on June 30, 2026, after the retirement of the current Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff. He has been elevated to the top position of the Indian Army.
Lieutenant General Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army in December 1986. Over his nearly four-decade-long career, he has held several key command, operational, and strategic leadership roles.
The official communication confirmed that he will formally assume office on the afternoon of June 30, the same day General Upendra Dwivedi retires from service.
Defence experts view his appointment as a continuation of experienced and stable leadership within the Indian Army.
