Trump’s Mount Rushmore Post Sparks Fresh Political Discussion in US

Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again drawn attention on social media after sharing a digitally created image depicting himself alongside the historic figures carved into Mount Rushmore.

The image, posted on his Truth Social platform, shows Trump’s face placed next to the four US presidents already immortalized on the monument—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. He shared the visual without adding any caption or statement.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota near Keystone, features 60-foot stone carvings of the four presidents. The monument is widely recognized as a symbol of the United States’ founding, expansion, development, and preservation, representing key chapters of American history.

The sculpture, created by artist Gutzon Borglum, was designed to honor leaders he believed best represented the nation’s first 150 years. George Washington symbolizes the birth of the republic, Thomas Jefferson its territorial expansion, Theodore Roosevelt economic progress and global rise, and Abraham Lincoln the preservation of the Union during the Civil War.

The idea of adding Trump’s likeness to the monument is not new. It dates back to a 2018 meeting when Trump reportedly told South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem that it was his “dream” to see his face carved into Mount Rushmore. Since then, he has occasionally supported the idea in public remarks.

The proposal has also been echoed by some of his political allies. In 2020, it was publicly discussed in political circles, and lawmakers including Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna have previously backed legislative efforts urging consideration of the addition.

Officials such as Interior Secretary Doug Burgum have also been linked to comments suggesting the site could structurally accommodate future additions, keeping the debate around the idea in political discourse.
