New Delhi : Former Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, has taken a sharp and sarcastic dig at Pakistan’s military developments and recent leadership changes, describing the promotion of Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir as “more theatrics than strategy.”
Speaking at a public event during an interaction with the media, Lt Gen Ghai said that such decisions within Pakistan’s military establishment should not be viewed as genuine strategic advancements, but rather as part of an internal exercise in image-building and narrative management.
Commenting specifically on Asim Munir’s elevation to the rank of Field Marshal, he remarked that the move reflects “optics and presentation rather than operational or strategic merit.” He added that India views such developments through a pragmatic lens and does not attribute significant military relevance to them.
Lt Gen Ghai further stated that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precise and well-planned strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure. According to him, the operation caused significant damage to terror networks based in Pakistan and achieved its defined military objectives.
He emphasized that India’s actions were strictly limited, targeted, and focused on counter-terrorism goals, executed with clear operational discipline and strategic restraint.
Military observers note that such remarks often go beyond standard commentary, reflecting broader signalling in terms of regional security dynamics and psychological posturing.
At a time when Pakistan has been projecting internal military reshuffles as symbolic victories, India’s response highlights a clear dismissal of such narratives, framing them instead as exaggerated propaganda rather than substantive military progress.
