Desk : US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ongoing ceasefire with Iran, saying the decision was taken after a request from Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump said Iran’s leadership remains internally divided and the ceasefire would continue until Tehran presents a unified proposal. He added that while military strikes would remain paused, US forces would continue strategic monitoring and remain prepared for any development.
However, Iranian officials strongly rejected Trump’s remarks. A senior adviser to the Iranian Parliament Speaker said that “those who have lost a war cannot dictate its terms,” dismissing the US President’s statement as politically motivated.
The ceasefire had originally come into effect on April 8 for a two-week period and was due to expire on April 22. Tensions had risen again in recent days over maritime security issues, shipping routes, and the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump had earlier warned that if no agreement was reached before the deadline, the United States could consider resuming military action. The latest extension is being viewed as a significant move to prevent further escalation in West Asia.
