Desk :Tensions have once again escalated in the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz after Iran accused the United States of conducting naval activities that it claims amount to a “blockade-like situation” in the region.

Iranian authorities stated that in response to what they described as “aggressive naval presence and operations” by the US, Tehran has tightened its control over the crucial maritime passage. Iran has termed the situation a matter of national sovereignty and maritime security.

According to Iranian officials, commercial vessels may be allowed to pass through the strait under regulated conditions, subject to security checks and approvals. However, restrictions on military vessels reportedly remain in place.

The United States, however, has strongly opposed Iran’s actions, stating that they violate international maritime laws. Washington has reiterated that it will maintain its naval presence in the region to ensure the safety and freedom of global shipping routes.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global crude oil and gas shipments pass. Any disruption in the region raises concerns over potential impacts on global energy supply and shipping stability.
