The conversation comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has said that restrictions related to the Strait of Hormuz will remain in place until a final agreement is reached with Iran.

Speaking to reporters in New York, Trump stated that negotiations with Iran are in their final stages and a major breakthrough could be possible in the coming days.

He added that the Strait could be opened immediately after a deal is signed, while the policy of “maximum economic pressure” would continue until then.
