US Vice President JD Vance Meets PM Modi, Discusses Potential Trade Agreement

New Delhi: U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived in New Delhi on Monday and met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This meeting is being regarded as highly significant for India-U.S. relations. According to sources, the two leaders are expected to hold key discussions on a potential trade agreement. Vance is accompanied by a delegation of senior U.S. government officials on his visit to India. Following comprehensive talks, Prime Minister Modi will host a dinner for the Vance family on Monday evening.

Vance’s visit comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed—and subsequently suspended—a sweeping tariff regime affecting nearly 60 countries, including India.

Before meeting with the Prime Minister, JD Vance, along with his wife Usha Chilukuri and their three children, visited the Akshardham Temple in Delhi on Monday. On a four-day trip to India, Vance is also expected to tour Agra and Jaipur. The family spent approximately four hours at the Akshardham Temple, where their children—Ivan, Vivek, and Mirabel—were seen dressed in traditional Indian attire.

In the temple’s guestbook, Vice President Vance wrote, “I am grateful for the warm hospitality and kindness extended to me and my family at this beautiful place. India deserves great credit for constructing such a magnificent temple with such care and precision. My children especially loved the experience. May God’s grace always be upon this place.”

The Vance family also posed for photographs outside the temple’s grand premises. A temple priest shared, “They were welcomed in a traditional manner before offering prayers. The family was presented with carved wooden elephants, a model of the Akshardham Temple, and children’s books as souvenirs.”
