Desk:After U.S. President Joe Biden’s approval, Ukraine launched U.S.-made missiles against Russia for the first time. According to RBC Ukraine, the Ukrainian military utilized long-range American ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory. This attack occurred just two days after Biden authorized the use of American weapons for attacks inside Russia.
The RBC Ukraine news agency, citing a source, reported that the attack targeted a military base in Karachev, Bryansk region of Russia. The source stated, “For the first time, we used ATACMS to attack Russian territory. The strike was successfully carried out on a military base in the Bryansk region.”
For months, Biden had refused to approve such actions due to concerns over escalating tensions. However, after reports of over 10,000 North Korean soldiers being deployed in Russia, the U.S. reconsidered its stance. The Daily Telegraph revealed that North Korea’s involvement in the Ukraine-Russia conflict prompted the U.S. to take this step, despite heightened fears of further escalation.
The agency further detailed that the attack targeted Russia’s key missile and artillery directorate. Andriy Kovalenko, an official with Ukraine’s National Security Council, stated that the base housed North Korean artillery weapons, guided bombs, anti-aircraft missiles, and ammunition for multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).
Previously, Russia had warned against the use of such weapons, stating it could fuel the war and push the world toward a third world war. In response to Biden’s approval, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new nuclear policy on Tuesday. Under this policy, attacks on Russia using conventional missiles, drones, or other aircraft would now fall under criteria for nuclear retaliation.
