Desk:The U.S. continues its deportation of illegal immigrants, including several Indian nationals who were declared undocumented in America. For the first time since Donald Trump assumed office as President, the U.S. has deported Indian illegal immigrants via a special flight. This issue was also discussed during talks between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reports suggest that the Trump administration is implementing its immigration agenda with military assistance. This includes deploying forces at the Mexico border, using aircraft to deport illegal immigrants, and setting up military bases to house them. According to a U.S. official speaking to Reuters on Monday, a U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft carrying deported migrants has departed for India.
These deportation flights are also transporting migrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras. Notably, this is the first instance of Indian nationals being deported since Trump took office. During discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised concerns about illegal Indian immigrants. Meanwhile, Trump expressed confidence that India would take appropriate action on this matter.
Jaishankar acknowledged the issue, stating, “There are several illegal activities associated with this. We do not support such practices, as they are not good for our reputation. If it is confirmed that our citizens are staying illegally in the U.S., and their identity is verified, we are ready to facilitate their lawful return to India.”
According to a Hindustan Times report, between October 2023 and September 2024, the U.S. deported over 1,100 illegal immigrants to India.
